Anguilla

Anguilla

Anguilla is a British overseas territory located in the Caribbean Sea. It is one of the British Virgin Islands. The capital is the city of Dolina. The climate on the island is tropical. There is high temperature and humidity throughout the year, with the rainy season usually running from July to November. The population is about 15,700 people. The official and state language is English. Since separating from Saint Kitts and Nevis in 1980, the territory's economy has grown significantly, driven by political stability, offshore financing and tourism. Snow-white sand and bright blue water, combined with a tropical climate, have made this country a popular holiday destination. In 2014, the island hosted the World Travel Awards, where Anguilla was recognized as the world's leading luxury island destination, further boosting tourism. Education on the island is provided by six primary schools and one secondary school. All schools are public. There is also an open campus of the University of the West Indies and St James's Medical Commerce School. There are several private clinics and hospitals in Anguilla, but if more serious treatment is needed, patients are sent to neighboring islands or to the UK. Sometimes, in the event of an emergency, they may be evacuated to Puerto Rico, the United States or other islands. Anguilla provides citizenship by birth if at least one of the parents is a citizen of Anguilla, as well as by naturalization after living on the island for a certain amount of time and fulfilling a number of conditions.
