Comoros

Comoros (Union of Comoros) is an island nation located in the Indian Ocean, northwest of Madagascar and east of Mozambique. The capital is the city of Moroni, located on the island of Grande Comore. The Comoros Islands are a federal republic. They have a presidential system of government, where the president is the head of state and government. The country consists of three islands: Grande Comore, Moheli and Anjouan, each of which has a certain degree of autonomy. The climate is tropical and is usually hot and humid. The islands have two main seasons: the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season usually lasts from November to April, and the dry season lasts from May to October. Humidity is high, especially during the rainy season. The population is approximately 850,000 people (2021). The national and official language of the Comoros Islands is Comorian, also known as Shikomor. In addition to Comorian, French and Arabic are spoken on the islands. French, as a remnant of the colonial heritage, is widely used in official and business settings. Arabic, in turn, has religious significance and is used in Islamic rituals and in everyday communication. The Comoros economy is focused on agriculture, fishing and a small service sector. Important elements of the economy are agriculture, the production of spices (including cloves and vanilla), as well as fishing and crops such as cassava, sweet potatoes and other root vegetables. Tourism also has potential for development, but the sector remains underdeveloped compared to some other island nations. Although the Comoros Islands are known for their picturesque nature, including mountain ranges, volcanoes, beaches with clear waters and tropical forests. One of the most famous volcanoes is Kartala. And snorkeling and diving on the islands provide the opportunity to see a colorful underwater world with coral reefs and diverse marine life. The standard of living in Comoros is comparatively low compared to more developed countries. Poverty and inequality remain significant problems, and most of the population lives in rural areas. The level of health care and education in Comoros also remains relatively low. Basic medical services are available, but the quality of healthcare is quite low. In the field of education, there also remain difficulties related to the availability of quality education for all citizens. Regarding security, Comoros has had periodic political and social conflicts in the past. This affected the overall level of security.
