This is an artificial waterway connecting the Mediterranean and Red Seas, and passing through the territory of Egypt. This canal is of great geopolitical and economic importance, as it provides a short route for ships between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans.
The country borders Israel and the partially recognized state of Palestine, Sudan and Libya. The capital Cairo is the largest city in the Middle East. Egypt is a republic. The head of state is the president.
