Montserrat
Montserrat is a small island and territory in the Caribbean Sea. Montserrat has the form of government of a British dependent territory. There is a local government (7 members) and a local parliament (11 members of which 9 are elected). Great Britain is in charge of issues such as defense and foreign affairs.
The capital was the city of Plymouth, but in 1997 most of the city was destroyed due to a volcanic eruption, and the capital was moved to the city of Brades.
The climate is tropical, maritime. High humidity and warm temperatures throughout the year. Average temperatures range from 25°C to 30°C. The rainy season usually occurs in summer and early autumn, and from November to June Montserrat is quite dry.
The country's population is about 5,000 people (2022).
The official state language is English. The local population can also speak an Antillean English dialect, sometimes called "Creole English". This dialect may differ from standard English and contain influences from other languages and local expressions.
Montserrat's economy is small and dependent on a few key industries - tourism, agriculture and the financial sector.
Tourism plays an important role in the state's economy, but the industry has faced significant disruption to its tourism infrastructure, which was damaged due to a volcanic eruption in 1995. Tourists come to Montserrat to enjoy its beautiful scenery, beaches and diving. Here you can see the Sulfur Hill volcano. You can take a tour of the volcanic flows and also visit the Montserrat Museum.
The standard of living in Montserrat is quite low, and the country's economic stability can be subject to fluctuations due to its dependence on tourism.
The level of medical care and education is limited due to the remote location and lack of medical infrastructure and specialists. In some cases, medical assistance may require evacuation to neighboring islands or the continent.
Citizenship by birth: Citizenship may be automatically granted to persons born in Montserrat. This applies to persons born on the island unless their parents are foreign diplomats and were in the country legally. Citizenship can also be obtained through political asylum and through marriage to a citizen of Montserrat.
