The Commonwealth of the Bahamas is a state on the islands of the same name in the Caribbean Sea north of Cuba, southeast of the Florida peninsula. The archipelago includes about 700 islands, 30 of which are inhabited. The Bahamas is an independent state. By the form of government, it is a constitutional monarchy. The head of state is the King of Great Britain. It is officially represented by the Governor General.
