Cocos Islands
The Cocos (Keeling) Islands Territory is an Australian territory located in the Indian Ocean.
Cocos Islands has a monarchical form of government, where the head of state is the King of Great Britain, who is represented by the Governor-General of Australia. In practice, power on the islands is exercised by the local government, headed by the territory administrator.
The Cocos Islands are located in the Indian Ocean, north of Australia and west of Indonesia. The islands are located more than 2,000 kilometers from the nearest land.
The capital is the city of West Island, which is located on the main island of the group - Coconut Island.
The climate is tropical, with the rainy season lasting from November to April. The air temperature on the islands ranges from 26 to 30 degrees Celsius all year round.
The population is estimated at 550 people (as of 2021). Most of the islands' inhabitants are descendants of migrants from Malaysia who were brought to the islands by British colonialists in the 19th century.
The official languages are English and Malay.
