The oil and gas sector brings significant revenue to the country's budget. Agriculture is developed and provides food and employment to most of the population. However, agriculture faces low productivity and access to inputs. They grow tapioca, sugar cane, rice, corn, peanuts, vegetables, coffee, and cocoa. The main buyer is China.
The country is actively developing its infrastructure by building roads and railways to improve transport and communication links. This promotes economic growth and attracts investment. But at the same time, the Republic faces social inequality and a low standard of living for many citizens. Despite oil revenues, the majority of the population remains poor.
Health and education systems need improvement. Access to quality health services and education is limited for many citizens and is absent in remote areas. There is also a problem with infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDS and malaria.
The Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) is a country that hosts refugees from neighboring countries, especially the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Congo-Kinshasa) and the Central African Republic. There is also a population of internal displacement within the country, partly related to conflict and violence. Everyone comes here to seek refuge and safety and needs help and protection.
According to UNESCO data, the literacy rate in the republic is about 74% of the population over 15 years of age. This figure may vary depending on the region. The educational system consists of primary, secondary and higher education. Basic education is free and compulsory for all children aged 6 to 16 years.
In some remote areas, access to education may not be available. There are several universities and higher education institutions in the country, However, access to higher education is beyond the reach of many due to financial and structural constraints.
