Fiji (off. Republic of Fiji) is an island nation located on more than 300 islands in the South Pacific Ocean north of New Zealand, south of Tuvalu and southwest of Wallis and Futuna. The capital is the city of Suva. The form of government is a parliamentary republic. The climate is tropical, maritime. The temperature is kept at the level of 25-30°C all year round, the rainy season is in the summer. The population of Fiji is about 925,000 people. (2021) The official state language in Fiji is English. Fijian and Hindi are also widely used. Fiji's economy is based on tourism, agriculture (sugarcane, coconut, fruit) and industry (sugarcane processing, textiles, food processing). The standard of living is different in different regions of the country, there is inequality in income. The literacy rate in Fiji is quite high. Children under 14 study in public free schools. Secondary education provides opportunities for higher education and lasts 5 years. Higher education can be obtained in several educational institutions, the main of which is the University of the South Pacific, where many students from other countries in Oceania study. The level of medicine is very different in different parts of the country.
