Micronesia (Federated States of Micronesia) is an island nation located in the North Pacific Ocean, northwest of Papua New Guinea and south of Guam. It consists of more than 600 islands and atolls scattered over thousands of miles. The capital is the city of Palikir, which is located on the island of Ponape. The form of government is a federal republic. It is a sovereign, self-governing State in free association with the United States of America, which is responsible for its security and defense. The country has a central government, as well as regional governments that have their own powers. The head of state is the president, and the system of government includes elements of representative democracy. The climate in Micronesia is tropical, with high humidity and warm temperatures all year round. The rainy seasons are solely determined by the monsoons: May to October is the southern monsoon season, and November to April is the northern monsoon season. The population is about 115,000 people. (2022). The official state language is English. Local populations in different parts of Micronesia may speak a variety of Micronesian languages and dialects. The most famous ones include Chuukese, Ponapean, Japanese and others. The economy is heavily dependent on key industries such as agriculture and fishing, and the country receives financial support from various international sources, including the United States, under the Compact of Free Association. Tourism is poorly developed due to geographical isolation and lack of infrastructure, although there is a rich underwater world here! The standard of living in Micronesia is considered low compared to developed countries. The islands of Micronesia have limited resources and small economies. The medical system in Micronesia is limited, especially on the outlying islands. Basic medical services are provided in the capital and larger cities. It is important to note that in the event of serious illness or injury, medical evacuation to neighboring islands or the continent is required. Education is also limited in resources and access, especially on the outer islands. Citizenship is not automatically granted by birth within the state if neither parent is a Micronesian citizen. But it is possible to obtain it through marriage and naturalization.
