New Caledonia is a French overseas territory with a special level of autonomy, located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is located east of Australia and northwest of New Zealand. To the north of New Caledonia is Vanuatu, and to the northeast is Fiji. The capital is the city of Noumea. The climate is tropical, with a rainy season and a dry season.
