Réunion
Reunion is an island overseas territory of France located in the western Indian Ocean, east of Africa.
The capital is the city of Saint-Denis.
Since the territory is an overseas department of France, it is also part of the European Union and uses the euro as its currency. The head is the President of France, and the island is governed by French laws and institutions.
The climate on the island is subtropical and depends on the altitude and location. On the coast, the climate is closer to tropical, with warm temperatures and high humidity. Mountainous regions, such as the Piton de la Fournaise Massif, have a cooler and wetter climate.
The population is approximately 911,000 people (2022).
The official language is French, as it is part of France. The local population also speaks a regional creole dialect, Reunion Creole, which is common among the local population. This dialect combines elements of French, African and Indian languages and is distinct from standard French.
Economy. Tourism plays an important role in the island's economy. Reunion attracts tourists with its beautiful beaches, mountains and natural attractions. Tourists can visit many interesting places, such as the national park on Reunion Island. It is a natural wonder with volcanic craters, mountains and picturesque landscapes. Pasa Valley - this valley is located between the mountains, where there are many picturesque places with views of volcanoes. A large number of waterfalls, Grand Galais, Fables des Aigrettes. Kelonia Oceanarium and much, much more.
Also significant sectors of the economy are fishing and agriculture, in particular the cultivation of sugar cane, vanilla and other agricultural products.
The standard of living in Reunion is relatively high compared to some other Indian Ocean countries. However, there is income inequality and significant unemployment.
The medical system on the island provides quality medical services and access to healthcare at a level corresponding to French standards. Many health services are provided free or at reduced rates to residents of Reunion.
The education system is also developed, and the island has a wide network of schools and educational institutions providing education in French.
The level of security is considered relatively high. The island is well controlled by French laws and law enforcement.
Since Reunion is one of the overseas departments of France, citizens of the island have French citizenship. If neither parent is a French citizen, then citizenship can be obtained by naturalization or by marriage to a citizen of this country.
