The United States Virgin Islands are an overseas territorial unit of the United States of America located in the Caribbean Sea east of Puerto Rico. This archipelago consists of three main islands: St. Thomas, St. John, St. Croix, as well as several smaller islands. The main city and capital is Charlotte Amalie, which is located on the island of St. Thomas. Government form is an unincorporated body of the United States and has the status of a US territory. The form of government is a territorial monarchy under the jurisdiction of the United States, where the head of the territory is a governor appointed by the President of the United States. They have their own legislative body, the Virgin Islands Senate, which governs local affairs. Citizens of the islands have US citizenship and are eligible to vote in US presidential elections.
