Western Sahara (Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic) is a country located in northwestern Africa, on the Atlantic coast, south of Morocco and north of Mauritania. A territory that is the subject of long-term conflict and status dispute. The country has declared independence, but Morocco claims the territory and administers part of the area. The SADR form of government is a republic, but its independence is recognized only by some countries, and disputes over the status of Western Sahara continue. The capital is the city of Laayoune. The climate is dry and desert. Most of this area is dominated by an arid climate with high temperatures and minimal precipitation. Temperatures rise to very high temperatures in summer: 43–45 °C (109–113 °F) and nights can be cold. Almost all precipitation usually falls in winter.
