The Republic of Azerbaijan is a state in the eastern part of Transcaucasia on the coast of the Caspian Sea. By area, it is the largest country in the Caucasus. It is a secular state and at the same time a multinational and multi-confessional country, where the majority of the population professes Islam. According to the form of government, Azerbaijan is a presidential republic. The head of state is the President. It is washed by the waters of the Caspian Sea. It borders with Russia, Georgia, Armenia and Iran. The Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, an exclave of Azerbaijan, borders on Armenia, Iran, and Turkey. Half of the country's territory is occupied by mountains. The capital is Baku. Climate. The country is located in the transition zone from a temperate climate to a subtropical one, and in the very south, in a subtropical one. There are alpine meadows, semi-desert climate, and different types of cold climate. The coldest months are January-February, the temperature, depending on the region, is 4–8 °C. in the mountains it can drop to -10-15 °C. Of the summer months, the hottest and driest month is July, with temperatures above 30 °C. Population size. The estimated population of the country for 2022 is 10,164,464 people. Language. The official language is Azerbaijani. Many residents speak Russian and English. Azerbaijan is a moderately developed industrial-agrarian state with a developed industry and agriculture. The main place in the economy of Azerbaijan is occupied by the oil and gas, oil refining industries, as well as chemical and machine-building, various branches of the food and light industries. Today, Azerbaijan leads among the CIS countries in terms of economic growth. The country is gradually switching to alternative forms of energy.
