The main income to the country's economy comes from tourism, fishing and assistance from foreign countries. This paradise archipelago attracts tourists with its beautiful beaches, underwater caves and rich underwater world for diving and snorkeling. Fisheries are also a significant part of the economy, especially tuna fishing. Palau receives assistance and funding from foreign partners, including the United States, which provide security and development assistance.
The standard of living, medicine and education in Palau as a whole can be assessed as relatively high for the Pacific region.
Palau does not have a citizenship by investment program like some other countries, nor does it have a "us soli" principle whereby citizenship is granted to a child born in the country but whose parents are not citizens of that country. Therefore, the main options for obtaining citizenship are by naturalization and by marriage to a Palauan citizen.
