
Sint Maarten
Sint Maarten is the Dutch, southern part of the island of St. Maarten, which is located in the Caribbean Sea, south of Anguilla and west of St. Helena. The form of government is parliamentary representative democracy within the constitutional monarchy of the Netherlands.
The capital is Philipsburg.
Population approximately 43,000 people (2021).
The climate is tropical marine. Temperatures in St. Maarten are generally high throughout the year and vary little. Average daytime temperatures are approximately 30°C (86°F) throughout the year. The island has two main seasons - the rainy season and the dry season. The rainy season lasts from May to November, and the dry season lasts from December to April. During the rainy season, the island may be subject to hurricanes and tropical storms.
The official languages are English and Dutch. In addition, Spanish, French and Creole are widely used.
The main source of income is tourism. There's a lot to see here. Attractions: the historic Fort Amsterdam, The Rusty Parrot will immerse you in the life of pirates, the Yoda Guy Film Exhibition and of course the beautiful beaches with white sand and warm clear water. Some of the more famous beaches include Great Bay Beach, Mullet Bay and of course Maho Beach, where planes land directly above the beach.
Education. There are 3 schools on the territory: a primary school, the Academy of Sint Maarten and one private. Residents can receive higher education by studying at the American University of the Caribbean Medical School. But most students choose to study in Curacao or the Netherlands.
Medical care is provided at the Sint Maarten Medical Center; the level of medical care is quite high. In addition, there are several private medical clinics.
There are two types of visas to visit Sint Maarten:
- short-term is issued for up to 90 days within 180 days, in such cases as tourism, visiting friends and relatives, business trips, etc.
- long-term visa with the possibility of multiple entry in such cases as study, family reunification, etc.
